Please vote for me because winning this competition will go towards my future education in microbiology. Your voting and contributing to this competition you will be helping other kids also.”— Ethan BW Jennings, 11 years Old

MIAMI-DADE, FL, UNITED STATES, October 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Well before Ethan Jennings set his sights on a career in microbiology, the young South Florida resident had already played a part in something most children never experience: influencing a modification to Florida law and sparking a nationwide dialogue on fathers, children, and parental rights.

Now, Ethan is aiming for another remarkable achievement.

The sixth-grader attending Pines Collegiate Academy in Pembroke Pines, Florida, holds the current top spot in his division for the 2026 Stan Lee’s Super Kid competition, an online national contest that honors children and their stories. Public voting is active, with the current Top 10 phase set to conclude on Thursday, October 8.

The contest’s grand prize includes $25,000, a custom illustrated character appearance in a special-edition Stan Lee comic book, and four VIP passes to the 2027 Los Angeles Comic Con. The victor will also earn the designation “Stan Lee’s Super Kid.”

For Ethan, the link to superheroes is particularly apt.

He admires Spider-Man and Iron Man, and on his official Super Kid profile, Ethan lists Spider-Man as his preferred superhero. His rationale echoes a well-known lesson from that character: power brings responsibility. Ethan states he aims to become a responsible individual and, given the choice of superpowers, would pick telekinesis and telepathy to assist people globally. However, Ethan’s journey of impact started long before this contest.

The Child Behind the Good Dad Act

Ethan is the child of Dr. Bernard Wh Jennings, a South Florida civic leader and advocate for fatherhood whose own fight to establish and safeguard his legal rights as Ethan’s father served as the catalyst for what is now called “Ethan’s Good Dad Act.”

Jennings has openly shared how, despite caring for Ethan for most of his early life, his status as an unmarried father created legal hurdles when a conflict arose regarding his son. Jennings told ABC Action News in 2023 that he did not legally become Ethan’s father until January 9 of that year, even though he had been a primary caregiver for years. His situation fueled his push for reforms in Florida law concerning unmarried fathers.

That effort became tied to Florida House Bill 775, which passed the Florida Legislature with unanimous support and went into effect on July 1, 2023. The legislation substantially altered Florida’s legal landscape regarding the rights of unmarried biological fathers.

What started as one father’s resolve to stay actively involved in his son’s life has since grown into a wider fatherhood initiative.

The Good Dad Act movement has continued to advance the idea that responsible fathers deserve a real chance to be part of their children’s lives. Discussions about shared parenting, fathers’ rights, and assumptions around parenting time have surfaced in state legislatures across the nation, transforming what began as a Florida story into a broader national discussion on family law and fatherhood.

Yet at the heart of the narrative remains Ethan.

From Personal Struggle to Published Work

Dr. Jennings later documented his experience in his book, “Ethan’s Good Dad Act: A Father Turns Lemons Into Lemonade for All Good Dads to Take a Sip!”

Released in 2024, the 204-page publication details a father’s fight for the legal right to raise his son while exploring larger themes around fathers, parental rights, and the family court system. Its description notes that the book blends Jennings’ personal story with research, case studies, and an examination of the barriers fathers may face when trying to maintain connections with their children.

The official Ethan’s Good Dad Act website describes the book as a commitment to advocating for parental rights and meaningful father-child relationships. The site also notes it is an Amazon top-selling book.

The title serves as a reminder that behind the legislation, public appearances, advocacy efforts, and national recognition lies the bond between a father and his son.
Ethan wasn’t just a name attached to a campaign. He was its foundation.

A Sixth-Grader Aiming for Science

Currently, Ethan is a sixth-grade student at Pines Collegiate Academy 6-12 in Pembroke Pines, which is part of Broward County Public Schools. The institution focuses on advanced academics and STEM opportunities, including programs in aeronautics and robotics.

Ethan already has his attention on science. He expresses a desire to become a microbiologist in the future.

Like many kids his age, though, science isn’t his sole passion. He also enjoys superhero films, especially Spider-Man and Iron Man — making his involvement in a contest bearing Stan Lee’s name particularly significant.

Stan Lee was responsible for creating or co-creating some of the most iconic comic-book characters globally, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the X-Men. The Super Kid competition is centered on the concept that real children can display their own forms of bravery, creativity, kindness, and persistence.

Ethan’s official competition profile characterizes him as smart, charismatic, and emotionally intelligent — and summarizes one particularly notable accomplishment for someone his age in just four words: “He inspired a law.”

Ethan Holds First Place — But Needs Daily Support

As of October 5, Ethan is in first place within his competition group, according to his official Stan Lee’s Super Kid profile.

The contest is still ongoing.

The competition moves through multiple stages, including the Top 10, Top 5, Group Finals, Wildcard Round, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals. The ultimate winner will be decided by public voting, with the 2026 Grand Prize Winner expected to be announced on or before December 17.

Supporters can submit a free daily vote for Ethan through his official competition page. The competition also offers donation-based voting options. Per the official competition website, those donations support The Stan Lee Foundation and its efforts to encourage literacy and the narrative arts. The competition is run by Colossal for DTCare, a nationally registered public charity that directs donations to the Stan Lee Foundation.

For Ethan, winning would bring $25,000, a VIP experience at Los Angeles Comic Con, and something that would delight nearly any Spider-Man fan — seeing himself turned into a superhero within the pages of a Stan Lee comic book.

But his story already holds a unique distinction.

Before even reaching middle school, Ethan Jennings had become the inspiration for a father’s book, a change in Florida law, and a movement supporting stronger father-child relationships.

Now, the boy who inspired Ethan’s Good Dad Act has a chance to add another milestone to his story.

This time, America gets to decide.
