In a move that signals a significant acceleration of its long-term strategic overhaul, Koahnic Broadcast Corporation (KBC) has named Charlie Perry as its new General Manager of Media. This senior executive role places Perry at the helm of the organization’s national media strategy, overseeing content, journalism, production, distribution, and—critically—audience growth.

Perry named General Manager of Media as Koahnic advances its strategic transformation.
ANCHORAGE, AK, UNITED STATES, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The appointment is far from a routine staffing change. It represents a deliberate step in executing KBC’s “Survive to Thrive” strategic plan and its broader “Koahnic 2030” initiative—a multi-year transformation and sustainability effort designed to future-proof the organization. The goal is not just to survive, but to build a nationally dominant platform for Native and Indigenous content.
Koahnic’s “Survive to Thrive” blueprint is built on three guiding principles, or “north stars”: achieving financial sustainability paired with growth, reaching organizational excellence, and establishing national brand leadership for Native and Indigenous storytelling. To get there, the plan calls for serious investment in people, technology, marketing, audience development, cross-platform content, and new revenue models. These aren’t just aspirations; they are the roadmap.
Those priorities are now being carried forward under “Koahnic 2030,” a framework specifically designed to strengthen KBC’s digital-first presence, broaden the reach and impact of its programming, preserve and advance Native journalism, language, arts, and culture, and build a stronger foundation of long-term financial independence. It is a comprehensive push to ensure Indigenous voices are not just heard, but lead the conversation.
“For several years, we have been preparing Koahnic for the next chapter of Indigenous media,” said Jaclyn Sallee, President and CEO of Koahnic Broadcast Corporation. “Our strategic plan gave us clear direction, and Koahnic 2030 is helping us put that plan into motion. The future of our content and the future of our audience have to be planned together. Charlie brings a broad perspective shaped by experience in Indigenous media, production, digital strategy, and audience development. His appointment gives us the leadership capacity to move that work forward with greater focus and coordination as we shape a stronger media organization for the future.”
Charlie Perry to Lead Koahnic’s Media Portfolio
Perry arrives at KBC with more than a decade of experience spanning Indigenous media, public broadcasting, content production, and digital strategy. A citizen of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, he is the founder of Charlie Perry Productions and the creator and executive producer of Spirit Plate, a PBS Food series that explores Indigenous food sovereignty, culture, and community leadership. His background also includes a stint as Director of Programming & National Narrative Strategy for Vision Maker Media, where he served more than 100 public television stations, as well as work with First Nations Experience.
In his new role, Perry will be responsible for providing leadership and operational cohesion across Koahnic’s entire media portfolio. That means strengthening coordination between teams and across platforms, while also identifying strategic, mission-aligned opportunities that support the organization’s long-term sustainability. It is a role that requires both a big-picture vision and a knack for execution.
“Koahnic already creates journalism and storytelling of national importance, and I’m excited about the opportunity to help more people discover and engage with that work,” Perry said. “People consume media across many platforms, and we have an opportunity to strengthen how our content is developed and distributed, deepen relationships with stations and partners, and reach audiences in new ways. I look forward to working with the entire team to grow that impact.”

Why it matters: This leadership change is more than an internal reshuffle—it is a strategic bet on the future of Indigenous media in a rapidly fragmenting digital landscape. By placing an executive with deep roots in both Native storytelling and digital innovation at the center of its operations, KBC is signaling that its survival and growth depend on reaching new audiences without losing its cultural core.
