With National Veterans and Military Families Month underway, one of the top mental health podcasts in the country is turning its attention squarely to those who served. We’re Out of Time, hosted by addiction recovery advocate Richard Taite, is rolling out four special November episodes that dig into the often-overlooked struggles of life after the uniform.
The lineup is anchored by heavy hitters from entertainment and advocacy. Emmy Award-winning television host and Marine Corps and Navy veteran Montel Williams joins the series, as does actress Jen Lilley, who plays Gloria Stewart in the upcoming biopic Jimmy, opening nationwide November 6. Also featured are Marine veteran and recovery advocate Shane Neal and military mental health psychologist Dr. Sharon Birman. Across these conversations, the focus stays on how service shapes a person long after they leave the military—and what it takes to find a path forward.
For Taite, who founded and chairs Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa and serves as chairman of 1 Method Centers, this isn’t just a programming decision. It’s a mission rooted in years of working directly with veterans dealing with addiction, mental health crises, and even homelessness.
Also worth a look: Follow Your Heart festival crowns winners in New York with 2,988 submissions and Freestyle Digital Media debuts ‘500 Fireflies,’ a dramedy about a father’s firefly-catching quest.
“Veterans have already given so much in service to our country. They shouldn’t have to fight another battle just to get help when they come home,” says Taite. “We owe them more than a thank you. We owe them real support, treatment and a chance to rebuild their lives.”
New episodes drop every Tuesday at 12 PT / 3 PM ET across YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other major platforms.
NOVEMBER EPISODE LINEUP:
NOV. 3 — SHANE NEAL: A MARINE VETERAN’S BATTLE WITH ADDICTION AND ROAD TO RECOVERY
Marine veteran Shane Neal opens up about his journey through addiction, the painful loss of military brotherhood, and the moment he realized his substance use was hurting his relationship with his son. A former client of both 1 Method Centers and Carrara Treatment, Neal recently hit two years of sobriety. His hope is that sharing his story will push other veterans to reach out for help.
NOV. 10 — DR. SHARON BIRMAN: SUICIDE PREVENTION AND RESTORING HOPE FOR VETERANS
Dr. Sharon Birman, a military mental health psychologist who has spent years training professionals who work with military populations, tackles suicide prevention, the weight of trauma, and the barriers that keep veterans from seeking support. The discussion zeroes in on how connection, trust, and early intervention can make a real difference in helping veterans find hope and get the care they need.
NOV. 17 — JEN LILLEY: HONORING MILITARY FAMILIES AND THE LEGACY OF JIMMY STEWART
Actress Jen Lilley talks about portraying Gloria Stewart, the wife of legendary actor and World War II veteran Jimmy Stewart, in the new film Jimmy, which stars KJ Apa alongside Rob Riggle and Jason Alexander. Drawing on her own family’s military roots, Lilley reflects on what service members and their loved ones sacrifice, how war leaves lasting scars, and why supporting military families matters now more than ever.
NOV. 24 — MONTEL WILLIAMS: MILITARY SERVICE, PTSD AND A LIFETIME OF ADVOCACY
Emmy Award-winning television host and Marine Corps and Navy veteran Montel Williams looks back on 22 years of military service, his life with multiple sclerosis, and decades spent advocating for veterans. He gets candid about chronic pain, the struggle to access medical care, and the Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) Protocol™, a treatment being studied for PTSD symptoms. The host of Military Makeover with Montel also talks about his push for innovations that give patients more control over their own medical records and care.
A COMMITMENT BEYOND THE MICROPHONE
This isn’t just talk for Taite. Through 1 Method Centers, he has helped veterans battling addiction, mental health issues, and housing instability—including people he met personally in Los Angeles homeless encampments. Today, 1 Method Centers offers individualized addiction and mental health treatment, with services available to eligible veterans through VA-related coverage pathways.
“Service doesn’t end when someone comes home, and neither should our commitment to them,” says Taite. “These conversations are about what happens next and how we can help veterans build the lives they deserve.”

New episodes premiere Tuesdays at 12 PT / 3 PM ET on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other major podcast platforms.
Why it matters: With veterans facing disproportionately high rates of addiction, suicide, and homelessness, this series puts a spotlight on the gap between public gratitude and actual support. By pairing celebrity voices with frontline experts and real recovery stories, the podcast aims to move the conversation from acknowledgment to action—and remind listeners that the obligation to veterans extends far beyond Memorial Day.
