Freestyle Digital Media drops ‘Purple,’ a drama about a single day that rewires two strangers

There is a quiet but profound power in a chance meeting, and the new independent film Purple aims to capture exactly that. Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has released the drama on North American digital HD internet, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms as of November 6, 2026.

The story follows a workaholic from Iowa who, after attending a conference, becomes stranded in Los Angeles during an unexpected layover. Disoriented by the sprawling, unfamiliar city, he crosses paths with a charismatic and unconventional young woman. The two spend a single day exploring overlooked parts of Los Angeles, engaging in honest conversations about deferred dreams, personal regrets, and what it means to search for meaning in modern life. By the time they part ways at nightfall, each character carries a transformed perspective, inspired by the other’s presence. The film is described as a thoughtful, heartfelt examination of loneliness, human connection, and the lasting impact that brief encounters can have.

Written by Aaron Therol, who also stars in the lead role, Purple was directed by Ben Gilbert. The producing team includes Shana Brewer, Rob M. Worley, Jane Kim, Scott M. Rosenfelt, and Stuart Wilson. The cast features Aaron Therol (‘Noah/Zybox’), Katy O’Kane (‘Purple’), Kai Kadlec (‘Trevor’), Julia Farino (‘Simone’), and Lance Paullin (‘Fitz’).

Also worth a look: Toys for Tots shows how one mother went from recipient to volunteer, proving a toy delivers more than holiday cheer and Pop star Tiffany faces her drag-queen doppelgänger in new dark comedy ‘Dragged Off.

“I wanted to tell this story as a reminder that life can become so consumed by work, commitments, and screens that we forget to truly notice one another,” said screenwriter and lead actor Aaron Therol. “Purple is a story about human connection, about the moments we find in the people we least expect, and how even a brief encounter can change the course of our lives.”

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the acquisition of Purple directly with the filmmakers. For more information about the film, visit the official Purple page on Freestyle Digital Media’s website.
