Farncombe Security® Watermark Robustness Testing aids vendors in assessing their defenses against pirate attacks
Having Cartesian independently validate the robustness of our watermarking solution reflects our commitment to transparency and rigor in content protection.”— James Ahn, CEO and Founder, DoverunnerOVERLAND PARK, KS, UNITED STATES, July 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Cartesian, a Bounteous Company, has independently verified the robustness of Doverunner's video watermarking solution through a series of tests. The evaluation determined whether the watermark could still be detected after undergoing processing, compression, and manipulation typical of pirated content redistribution.
A pirated stream can travel across the globe in mere minutes. In such cases, forensic watermarking is one of the few methods that can trace an illegal copy back to its origin. That traceability depends entirely on the watermark surviving the attacks pirates employ to remove, degrade, or hide it. The capacity to identify a leak’s source aids enforcement efforts, limits further spread, and shapes future content protection strategies.
Cartesian’s assessment examined Doverunner’s solution against a range of attacks at different levels of intensity. The testing measured how consistently the watermark could be recovered across each scenario, concluding that Doverunner’s watermark remained detectable in the conditions evaluated. For content owners, broadcasters, and OTT platforms, the findings offer an independent perspective on how the solution withstands various pirate methods.
"Watermarking is only effective if it remains detectable when it matters most," said Mei Lam, Head of Security Assurance at Cartesian. "Our robustness testing is designed to help the industry understand how solutions perform against pirate attacks commonly used during illegal content redistribution."
James Ahn, CEO and Founder at Doverunner, added: "Piracy tactics keep evolving, and so must the tools used to fight them. Having Cartesian independently validate the robustness of our watermarking solution reflects our commitment to transparency and rigor in content protection. Results like these help raise the bar for the entire industry, not just for Doverunner."
