The third book in the Discover Adventure series turns Wild’s greenhouse, meadow, wildlife, and family memories into an imaginative children’s world where hearts glow with warmth.
Author Kim Wild, who writes for children, invites young readers and their families into a captivating realm inspired by her very own backyard in Moonbeam Way: The GreenHouseSheShed Stories: Discover Adventure Series Book Three. This tale features shimmering Firelites, woodland creatures, enchanted blossoms, and soft lessons about companionship and fitting in. It weaves imaginative adventure together with elements drawn from Wild’s actual greenhouse, a four-acre meadow, a modest forest, animals, and family moments.
As dusk falls over the enchanted meadow, tiny Firelites begin their nightly tasks, dusting golden pollen across the flowers of the GreenHouseSheShed. Nearby, a majestic buck keeps a quiet watch over the neighborhood, acting as its unknown guardian. Across the field, Midnight, a black cat, watches the tiny glowing world from a distance. She wishes to be part of the community and wonders if the GreenHouseSheShed might one day become a place where she, too, is welcome.
The seed for the GreenHouseSheShed Stories was planted six years ago when Wild received her greenhouse and imagined it could one day serve as the foundation for children’s tales. Much of the world readers encounter has roots in real life. Wild draws inspiration from the actual GreenHouseSheShed in her backyard, the deer that visit her property, honey bees and bumble bees, flowers, her forever puppy Echo, and Miss Bluebeary—a bear cub that once made a home beneath the branches of a Douglas Fir tree. Even the little boy who sings in Moonbeam Way was inspired by Wild’s grandson.
Wild also brings a unique visual element to the series. She photographs real objects, animals, structures, and locations from her home and land, then uses artificial intelligence as part of the process of turning those photos into magical illustrations. According to Wild, roughly 95 percent of the illustrations start with something real, including fairy houses she has built herself. She stresses that artificial intelligence is not used to write the stories.
The books are designed to encourage children to dwell on the illustrations as much as the words. Hidden details sprinkled throughout the pages invite repeated viewing, giving young readers a chance to find something new each time. Wild says that teachers, day care providers, and grandparents have responded enthusiastically to this blend of storytelling and visual discovery.
With eight books created across two GreenHouseSheShed series, Wild continues to build a world where familiar elements of nature become gateways to imagination. In Moonbeam Way, a watchful deer, a hopeful cat, glowing Firelites, and a magical meadow converge around a reassuring message for young readers: friendship can appear in unexpected places, and there is always room for one more heart to belong.
