“With ‘DAT BOI,’ my goal was to craft music that resonates emotionally and bridges different cultures.”— Vic G, R&B, Afrobeat and Reggae Recording Artist
HOLLYWOOD, CA, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Zakanda Entertainment partnered with Green Boy Music to bring recording artist Vic G and his signature mix of R&B, Afrobeat, and reggae to El Cid on Sunset in Hollywood. The DAT BOI Experience was a night dedicated to music, film, and culture, featuring live performances, visual storytelling, and the first screening of the cinematic vertical music video for “DAT BOI.”
The gathering attracted celebrities, musicians, producers, filmmakers, and industry executives for a red-carpet affair. Notable attendees included Vic G, Mr. Suprize, Zarian Hadley, Lizzy Jeff, Ras Kass, Brandon Miree, E. Dee Dennis, Fik-shun (Dushaunt Stegall), Baby Mahusay, Qbwoy, Shawn Cornist, Cheryl K., Roney Boys, PR1ME, Louis Harden, Invinceable, and Brooke Ivory, among many others.
The event continued with a live set from Vic G, who delivered “DAT BOI” alongside special guest Mr. Suprize, a Jamaican reggae artist, with backing from The Frequency Squad band. This performance translated the song’s blend of R&B, Afrobeat, and Reggae influences from the screen to the stage. An unexpected live moment added to the evening’s electricity when dancehall and Billboard-recording artist E. Dee Dennis surprised the crowd with an impromptu performance.
“DAT BOI” represents a fresh creative direction for Vic G, fusing contemporary R&B’s soulful textures with Afrobeat and reggae while staying true to the foundational sounds that have defined his career. Hailing from Cincinnati, he draws on gospel, classic soul, and R&B while embracing global rhythms that unite diverse audiences. Vic G, formerly the lead vocalist of III Frum Tha Soul, notched six victories at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater and holds recording credits alongside acclaimed artists such as Gerald Levert, Angie Stone, and Keith Sweat.
“With ‘DAT BOI,’ I wanted to create music that connects with people on an emotional level and brings different cultures together. Bringing this music to the stage and sharing it with an audience in Hollywood made the experience even more meaningful. I am excited for people to experience where the music is taking me,” said Vic G.
A key moment of the evening was the debut of the “DAT BOI” vertical music video, directed and produced by filmmaker Zarian “King Z” Hadley, founder of Zakanda Entertainment. Shot in a 9:16 vertical format, the film emphasizes motion through visual storytelling, giving viewers a more intimate connection to the music and its performers.
The single features Mr. Suprize and Binghi Canusee, who also appear in the video alongside Afrobeat choreographer Nksogorgeous. Her past choreography has been featured in videos for artists including Davido, Wizkid, Cardi B, Chris Brown, and Ciara.
The evening also marked the launch of “The Power of Support,” a micro-documentary series that chronicles the making of “DAT BOI” and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the artists, collaborators, and creative journey. The series is featured on Look at Zakanda, a new Microdrama-Microdoc vertical media platform designed to showcase innovative short-form visual storytelling.
“Every creative decision was intentional,” said Hadley. “We wanted to create a visual experience that brings audiences closer to the music, the performers and the story behind the song. The cinematic micro-doc vertical format allows us to focus on emotion, movement and connection in a more personal way. TEAM, Together Everyone Achieves More, represents the foundation of our approach to creativity and collaboration.”
The DAT BOI Experience was presented with support from event sponsors Qbwoy Production, Zakanda Entertainment, Moviefield Entertainment, GPD Creative Agency, Look at Zakanda, and Shawn Cultural Cuts.
