The Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) is extending an open invitation to the general public to witness one of the convention’s most eagerly awaited customs, as Competition Night takes place during the public Wisconsin Fireworks Festival on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR).
For those passionate about fireworks, Competition Night presents an uncommon chance to glimpse a facet of the PGI Convention that most onlookers never get to see. Although some previous conventions welcomed public audiences to competition events, attendance at this distinctive convention tradition has generally not been available to the public in recent times.
This year’s Wednesday evening schedule combines competitive pyrotechnics with a number of unique exhibition presentations, producing one of the most varied and thrilling nights of the entire festival.

An Evening Highlighting the Finest of PGI
In contrast to a standard fireworks show, PGI Competition Night brings to the forefront the inventiveness, skill, and originality of pyrotechnicians from all over the nation as they showcase their own submissions designed to display both technical proficiency and artistic flair.

Junior Pyrotechnics Association (JPA) Display
The up-and-coming generation of fireworks enthusiasts will take the spotlight as members of the Junior Pyrotechnics Association (JPA) deliver a special showcase presentation. The JPA initiative is designed to foster youth participation in fireworks safety, education, and the pyrotechnic arts, while also cultivating the next leaders within the hobby.

Public Show Nights Only
PGI would like to remind spectators that the Wisconsin Fireworks Festival is only accessible to the public on three specified show nights:
Saturday, August 8
Wednesday, August 12
Friday, August 14
The PGI Convention will continue throughout the week as a private gathering for PGI members and registered convention attendees. Local authorities are advising the public against traveling to Wisconsin International Raceway on evenings that are not designated as public shows.
The track entrance will be shut to the public, public parking lots will not be accessible, and there is no roadside or shoulder parking available in the vicinity of the venue. Vehicles parked along roadsides may be subject to ticketing or towing.
Spectators are urged to attend one of the designated public performances and to secure their tickets ahead of time.
What Happens if Weather Becomes a Concern?
PGI’s objective is consistently to present each show as scheduled. Fireworks displays can be conducted in a wide variety of weather conditions, but safety continues to be the organization’s foremost priority.
In the event that severe weather makes it unsafe to carry out a performance, PGI’s established policy is to postpone rather than cancel the show whenever feasible.
If a postponement becomes necessary, organizers will make the determination as early in the day as practical. All ticket holders will be notified via email, and tickets will be valid for the rescheduled performance. Attendees will see the same show they originally purchased tickets for.
Any schedule modifications will also be announced through local television media outlets, the PGI website, and PGI social media channels, which together reach over 1.5 million followers.
