Divine G Entertainment offers 100 free Kindle copies of wrongful conviction novel ‘No Other Love

For readers who think they know the story of wrongful conviction, John “Divine G” Whitfield’s latest novel offers something rare: fiction written from inside the system it critiques. Divine G Entertainment has launched a Goodreads giveaway of 100 Kindle editions of the novel “No Other Love,” closing on November 13, 2026.

John “Divine G” Whitfield, founder of Divine G Entertainment and the man whose real-life ordeal inspired the A24 film “Sing Sing,” penned this work while still incarcerated. The book is a work of fiction set in Brooklyn in 1994. It centers on Dinasia Whitman and Tislam Parker, two young people who meet and fall in love within the New York State foster care system, only to face graduation from it in four months. When a shooting erupts outside a public housing development, Parker is convicted for a murder committed by another man and sentenced to thirty years to life.

Five years later, Whitman, having built a career and a home elsewhere, discovers that evidence tied to the case may still exist. The giveaway is managed by Goodreads and open to United States residents aged eighteen or older. Entry requires a Goodreads account and no purchase. Winners are chosen by Goodreads at the giveaway’s end and receive the Kindle edition delivered directly to their account. Goodreads encourages winners to post a review, but no review is required to enter or receive the book.

Also worth a look: Brenda Nelson’s Grace & Growth offers hope for weary hearts beyond crisis moments and Vanessa Hudgens and Oliver Trevena toast Caliwater’s national rollout with A-list Miami bash.

Whitfield wrote “No Other Love” while serving time in New York State prisons for twenty-five years, before his release in 2012. He has published eight novels, all written during that period. His life story is the basis for the A24 feature film “Sing Sing,” where he is portrayed by Colman Domingo. The film earned Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for Domingo and Best Adapted Screenplay, on which Whitfield shares a credit. Whitfield also appears in the film.

While incarcerated, Whitfield co-founded Rehabilitation Through the Arts, a nonprofit that delivers theater and creative arts programming in New York State correctional facilities—the subject of the film. The organization reports a three percent recidivism rate among participants released from prison, compared to roughly sixty percent for the general released population.

Whitfield has received four PEN Awards, the Tacenda Literary Award, and a citation from the United Nations for advocating education in detention. Since his release, he has worked as a youth counselor in New York City and as a train operator for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

“I wrote this book in a cell, on a typewriter, over about a year,” Whitfield said. “The story is invented. The setting is not. I was describing a world I knew from the inside.”

Whitfield explained the giveaway aims to reach readers who might not otherwise encounter the book. “Most people have no particular reason to pick up a novel about a man in prison,” he said. “Removing the price removes one obstacle to trying it.”

“No Other Love” is also available in paperback, as a Kindle edition, and as an audiobook narrated by the author. Details and entry are available at https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/453734-no-other-love through November 13, 2026.

100 Free Copies — No Other Love by Divine G | Goodreads Giveaway Through Nov 13

Why it matters: Whitfield’s offer of 100 free Kindle copies removes a financial barrier to a story that few would otherwise seek out—a novel about wrongful conviction written by someone who lived it. With a recidivism rate of just three percent among participants of the arts program he co-founded, compared to sixty percent nationally, Whitfield’s work underscores how creative expression can transform lives behind bars and beyond.
