Sometimes the most profound shifts in perspective arrive unannounced, in the form of a stranger and a single day. That’s the premise of “Purple,” a new drama from Freestyle Digital Media that landed on North American digital HD, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms on November 6, 2026.
The film follows a workaholic from Iowa who, after a conference, finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Los Angeles during a layover. Overwhelmed by the unfamiliar sprawl of the city, he crosses paths with a charismatic, unconventional young woman. The two spend the day exploring overlooked corners of Los Angeles, engaging in raw conversations about deferred dreams, personal regrets, and the search for meaning. By nightfall, both walk away with a transformed outlook, each having left a mark on the other. “Purple” is described as a thoughtful and heartfelt meditation on loneliness, human connection, and the lasting imprint of brief encounters.
Screenwriter and lead actor Aaron Therol, who also stars in the film, explained his motivation behind the project. “I wanted to tell this story as a reminder that life can become so consumed by work, commitments, and screens that we forget to truly notice one another,” Therol said. “PURPLE is a story about human connection, about the moments we find in the people we least expect, and how even a brief encounter can change the course of our lives.”

Directed by Ben Gilbert, “Purple” was produced by Shana Brewer, Rob M. Worley, Jane Kim, Scott M. Rosenfelt, and Stuart Wilson. Alongside Therol, the cast includes Katy O’Kane as ‘Purple,’ Kai Kadlec as ‘Trevor,’ Julia Farino as ‘Simone,’ and Lance Paullin as ‘Fitz.’
The acquisition deal for “Purple” was negotiated directly between Freestyle Digital Media and the filmmakers. Freestyle Digital Media is the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group.
