The debut dramatic feature from director Jess Dang, executive produced by Andrea Bang, arrives on North American VOD platforms as of July 14, 2026.

SURRENDER is inspired by my own experience with gambling addiction and explores identity, family, and belonging through the lens of an Asian American woman navigating addiction.”— Filmmaker Jess Dang

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution arm of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has now made the family drama SURRENDER available across North American digital HD internet, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms, with availability beginning July 14, 2026. Backed by Film Independent and NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, the film was showcased at festivals such as the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival.

This raw and emotional debut feature centers on Naomi, a young Asian American woman whose life is upended by a hidden gambling addiction. As she grapples with her struggles, Naomi confronts denial and shame that strain her connections with family, coworkers, and herself. Eventually she hits a critical juncture and must choose between a path toward ruin or one of self-compassion.

Jess Dang wrote and directed SURRENDER, with production handled by Dang, Jessica Olthof, and Darren Haruo Rae. The cast includes Andrea Bang (Kim's Convenience) playing Naomi, Fiona Fu (Lucky Lu) as June, Cici Lau (Interior Chinatown) as Gran Mi, and Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls) as Margaret.

“SURRENDER is inspired by my own experience with gambling addiction and explores identity, family, and belonging through the lens of an Asian American woman navigating addiction,” remarked filmmaker Jess Dang. “At the heart of the film is a question: What generational stories do we inherit, and which ones do we choose to rewrite? My hope is that Surrender creates space for empathy and more honest conversations about the experiences we too often keep hidden."

Freestyle Digital Media secured the rights to SURRENDER through a direct arrangement with the filmmakers and Dang’s production company, Long Lunch Break.
