TARZANA, CA, UNITED STATES, August 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Tarzana International Film Festival (TZIFF) is delighted to reveal that celebrated film and television producer Gale Anne Hurd will be granted the prestigious Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy Award at the festival's Closing Night Awards Gala on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Esteemed filmmaker Ernest Dickerson will present the honor.
This award is named for the imaginative mind who brought us Tarzan®, John Carter of Mars®, The Land That Time Forgot®, and countless other cherished adventure tales. The Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy Award honors individuals whose careers have significantly propelled the realms of science fiction, fantasy, adventure, and creative storytelling.
Very few filmmakers capture that spirit as fully as Gale Anne Hurd.
Over a remarkable career that has stretched more than forty years, Hurd has brought to life some of the most impactful and pioneering films in contemporary cinema, such as The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Tremors, Armageddon, and numerous other celebrated productions. Her mark on television has been just as notable, serving as executive producer for the global hit The Walking Dead, plus a range of other successful series that have enthralled viewers across the globe.
Recognized for backing visionary directors, cutting-edge visual effects, and memorable characters, Hurd has consistently expanded the limits of cinematic storytelling while helping to shape the modern landscape of science fiction, fantasy, and action films.

The award ceremony will be held during the festival’s Closing Night Awards Gala, a semi-formal affair that includes a celebrity red carpet, cocktail reception, dinner, and special presentations celebrating outstanding independent filmmaking. Hurd will be joined by a number of distinguished guests and celebrity presenters, tentatively including Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial) and Phil Morris (Bosch: Legacy), with further special guests to be announced later.
The event will also include a special tribute to legendary actor, martial artist, and humanitarian Chuck Norris, delivered by actor Sean Kanan, in acknowledgment of Norris’s exceptional contributions to film, television, and humanitarian efforts.
The Tarzana International Film Festival shares a distinct link with Edgar Rice Burroughs. In 1919, Burroughs purchased a vast ranch in California's San Fernando Valley and called it Tarzana Ranch, named for his iconic literary character. As the land eventually developed into a thriving town, locals opted to keep the name, making Tarzana the only community worldwide named after a fictional figure.
