CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Lawrence Lee Wallace, a filmmaker, Army veteran, and author originally from Chicago, has published The Smell of Blood, the opening entry in The Smell of Blood Series. This supernatural horror tale, available via Amazon and Barnes & Noble, centers on a devoted husband and father whose connection with an ancient vampire endangers his entire family. Themes of loyalty, identity, sacrifice, and the perils of seeking approval from the wrong person run throughout the narrative.
A Carefully Constructed Life Is Undermined by a Family Secret
The protagonist of “The Smell of Blood” is Chris Walker, a prosperous construction company owner residing with his wife, Sharena, and their kids. Chris also carries a werewolf curse that originated from a mysterious incident in Afghanistan.
Every month, Chris willingly enters a cage lined with silver, built by Sharena—a former Army Captain who has devoted years to helping him control his transformations. This well-practiced schedule allows the couple to shield their children and maintain a steady home life.
That equilibrium starts to shatter when Chris crosses paths with Sebastian Adeyemi, a magnetic vampire who has roamed the earth for over two hundred years. Sebastian sees Chris’s supernatural state as a form of strength and provides the acceptance Chris has secretly yearned for. Their deepening bond soon triggers manipulation, kidnapping, murder, betrayal, and a brutal fight over the Walker family’s future.
Human Emotion Anchors Supernatural Horror
The story weaves together gothic horror, military thrillers, vampire lore, and werewolf tragedy. Its supernatural conflict emerges through the emotional ordeal of a family living under relentless strain.
Chris’s challenges go beyond his monthly shift. He wrestles with loneliness, shame, duty, and an increasing urge to comprehend the beast inside him. Sharena’s military discipline and commitment to her family place her at the forefront as the peril around her husband escalates.
“The Smell of Blood grew from my interest in the people who have to live beside the monster and carry the emotional cost of keeping a family together,” said Lawrence, Author and Founder of Deep Production Studios LLC. “Chris wants to protect the people he loves, yet he also wants someone to understand every part of him. That need opens the door to consequences he could never have anticipated.” Additional information is available at the website: https://deepproductionstudios.com.
As the first installment in a planned horror saga, the book builds a broader universe shaped by supernatural inheritances, individual decisions, and the enduring aftermath of violence.
Cinematic Debut Informed by Filmmaking Background
Lawrence draws on more than fifteen years as a director, writer, producer, and editor for his debut novel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1990 to 1998 and later graduated as salutatorian from Full Sail University.
His film credits include the feature Tobias: Dark Hallway and the dark comedy Pieces of David, which was selected for the Black Harvest Film Festival and nominated for a Black Excellence Award.
