A pilot initiative at Cinespace’s Kipling Campus aims to make reusable set materials more readily available for Ontario productions
TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Cinespace Studios revealed a fresh collaboration with SOS Depot designed to encourage material reuse throughout Ontario’s film and television industry.
Under this arrangement, SOS Depot will run a 4,000-square-foot facility within Cinespace Studios’ Kipling Campus, situated at 777 Kipling Avenue in Toronto. The depot will gather and hold reusable scenery, set components, and construction supplies, then offer them for rental or acquisition by upcoming productions.
This pilot project intends to simplify and widen access to material reuse, while backing eco-friendly production methods and boosting the competitiveness of Toronto and Ontario as industry-ready markets.
Film and TV sets often require large amounts of flats, backdrops, doors, windows, subflooring, and other building items. Even though many of these elements are built for a single shoot, they frequently remain usable for years after filming concludes.
SOS Depot will create a dedicated, on-site hub where these supplies can be gathered, stored, and returned to circulation. Productions will be able to factor the depot into their workflow at both the start and end of a project: sending eligible items to SOS Depot during wrap, and obtaining reusable materials when designing and constructing new sets. SOS Depot will handle the reuse program and manage all stored materials. Cinespace will supply the studio infrastructure and operational backing required to launch the pilot at its Kipling Campus.
This initiative receives support from Ontario Green Screen and the City of Toronto, along with endorsement and involvement from IATSE Local 873, the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario, the Canadian Media Producers Association, NABET 700-M UNIFOR, and Full Frame Signs.
The pilot will help build an accessible framework for circular use of production materials and show how studios, productions, labour unions, industry associations, and government bodies can cooperate to deliver practical sustainability solutions.
