Hungry Minds Publishing has introduced a new “magical artifact” titled The Freeman Codex. Mr. Freeman, widely recognized online as a popular UK cartoon, is in fact an animated web series created by Pavel Muntyan. The character’s sharp monologues, dark comedy, and cynical outlook have drawn millions of viewers on YouTube. The Freeman Codex is a unique first: a condensed compilation of Mr. Freeman’s philosophy — a compass for thought, a symbolic map, and a record of his reflections on life, society, and self-awareness.
According to Muntyan, “Mr. Freeman has always been a voice that shifts between irony and sincerity, asking people to wake up and pay attention to their world.” He adds, “The Codex offers that same voice within its pages. It’s not a book to simply browse. It was purpose-built to be sat with, questioned, and interpreted.”
Given its reputation for producing hand-illustrated books, Hungry Minds proved to be the perfect collaborator for this project. Their most well-known publication, The Book: The Ultimate Guide to Rebuilding Civilization, became a crowdfunding success, amassing more than $3 million through Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Since then, it has sold over 400,000 copies globally, cementing the company’s position as a frontrunner in independent, design-driven publishing.
The Freeman Codex represents a 13-year undertaking that has now reached completion. Drawing from a manuscript that was entirely hand-lettered and hand-illustrated, the volume employs Greek, Latin, and English, combining symbolic charts, enigmatic phrasing, and visual narratives that echo the incisive, provocative spirit that turned Mr. Freeman into an online sensation.
Every page, from the embossed impressions on the cover down to the tiniest footnote in the back, has been manually crafted, making the book a tactile delight. Admirers of the animated series can obtain The Freeman Codex via the official Hungry Minds website in three editions: Regular, Slipcase, and Deluxe. This publication contains mature content and obscene language, and it is advised for readers aged 18 and above.
Timur Kadyrov, co-founder of Hungry Minds, states: “We’re excited to support a project like The Freeman Codex, helping build on the Mr. Freeman character’s legacy with a new approach. It’s bold, visually ambitious, and creative. That’s exactly the kind of work we want to bring into the world.”
