Pop icon Tiffany makes her film debut in a bizarre dark comedy about a drag queen stealing her career

Fresh from her New York Off-Broadway run, the multi-platinum singer Tiffany Darwish is stepping onto the big screen for the first time—and she’s not playing it safe. Her debut arrives in a darkly comic feature that pits a pop star against the drag queen who threatens to take everything from her.

VANCOUVER, BC — The outrageous dark comedy ‘DRAGGED OFF,’ directed by Chris Vinan, is gearing up for release after being picked up for distribution by IndustryWorks Studios.

The film stars pop icon Tiffany Darwish—famous for the chart-topping “I Think We’re Alone Now”—as Kasey K, a pop star plotting a major comeback. Her plans hit a snag when a bizarre legal mishap threatens to hand over the rights to her name, music, and tour to Lacey (Derrick Barry), her celebrity drag-queen impersonator. What starts as a fight over a comeback quickly spirals into a surreal war over fame, identity, and celebrity itself.

‘Dragged Off’ assembles an unusually eclectic cast drawn from entertainment and pop culture, including Tiffany Darwish, Derrick Barry, Latrice Royale, Taryn Manning (‘Orange is the New Black’), William Hung, and Justin Jedlica—better known as the “Human Ken Doll”—among others.

The project also features special cameo appearances from rock-and-roll legend Tommy James, actor and musician Corey Feldman, and drag king and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula winner Landon Cider.

“We made Dragged Off to be unpredictable, ridiculous and completely unapologetic,” said director Chris Vinan. “It brings together people from completely different corners of entertainment for a story about celebrity and identity that just keeps getting more insane.”

Written and directed by Chris Vinan, the film blends celebrity satire, drag culture, and dark comedy into an unconventional independent feature that explores the increasingly blurry line between a celebrity and the people who make a living impersonating one.

Why it matters: This film marks a significant pivot for a 1980s pop icon stepping into acting with a role that directly satirizes the machinery of celebrity. By centering the story on a legal battle between a star and her impersonator, ‘Dragged Off’ taps into current cultural conversations about identity, ownership, and the commodification of fame in the streaming era.
